SHIKI MENYA

As featured on ‘You Gotta Eat Here,’ Shiki Menya is a Japanese eatery known famously for their limited supply of ramen. Calgarians will line up down the streets of Bridgeland in hopes of getting noodles before they run out of their daily supply. Since their food is so desirable, we wanted to create a stadium for cooking to be showcased, and the plating of ramen to be seen by all.

To enhance the connection between the street and the interior of the restaurant we added a large garage door and a glazed storefront. This provided an abundance of natural light to flood the restaurants interior. In support of Shiki Menya’s vibrant pop art style branding, the interior palette remained neutral, combining natural and architectural materials. We worked collaboratively with the client to create a cement block feature wall with wooden inserts that provides flexible shelving for a layer of greenery.

In addition to the restaurant, we also worked on First Avenue Corner Store: a hidden location behind Shiki Menya that serves quality street food from a takeout window.
